Milner was given the No 9 role because of injuries to Sergio Aguero, Edin Dzeko and Stevan Jovetic, but Silva provided the knockout punch with two quick-fire goals after 49 and 61 minutes following a stalemate first half. The win left City on 39 points,level with leaders Chelsea.

Aguero's stunning hat trick made the diffrence as City came from behind to beat 10 man Bayern in last night's all important Champions League fixture at Eastlands. The evening started with both sets of fans booing the UEFA anthemin response to their handling of the punishment that was dished out to CSKA Moscow for the behaviour of their fans which left many City and Bayern fans out of pocket when their home games were forced to be played behind closed doors.
